US president says ‘we’re going to run the country until a safe, proper and judicious transition’ can take place and that he is ‘prepared’ for a second attack

Any idea how the actual people of Venezuela are reacting to this?

I reckon Trump just made a martyr out of Maduro. Even his staunchest opponents domestically will not take the US takeover kindly.

That’s what I’m thinking. They won’t take this lying down, surely?

Venezuelans have become increasingly helpless and uneducated over the last generation due to policy decisions. Those still within the country are largely those who couldn’t find a means to leave or those who refused to do so. A lot of impotent frustration going around, to say the least

One perspective that seems fairly popular is that they aren’t super worried about Maduro or what happens to them but they are terrified by the thought of American occupation/colonialism/being a puppet state. Destabilization.

As far as I know, they’re overjoyed that Maduro is gone. What precisely will happen next isn’t certain yet, so they feel hopeful.
