Actually, no. The NSDAP emptied and closed the psychiatric wards by killing “unworthy lives”, so they did not have the opportunity to use them against political enemies. The Soviets did this a lot, though - not accepting the “scientifically proven reality of Marxism” was often considered to be paranoid.
I agree that the success of Trumpism has been due to his personality cult and nothing else. But they are basing their power more and more on open violence, terror and propaganda. It is very well possible that they manage to consolidate this rule of fear before Trump becomes unfeasible.
I had this discussion about the usage of “murder” vs “execution” a couple of months ago with some guy on lemmy.
To people who are fond of judicial sanctified vengance killings aka capital punishment, the term “execution” has a positive connotation. To you and me, calling this cold blooded murder “execution” enhances the abhorrence. To them, it expresses justification.
The “truth” is “poor mom mislead by left hate speech went rogue and an innocent good guy was forced to defend himself”. At least in the MAGA world.
Moms being murdered won’t convert a single MAGA, they’ll cheer it on as long as they are told this mom was aedomestic terrorist.
Affordability affects even the most brainrot MAGA supporter personally.
And they are declaring everyone actively opposing them “domestic terrorist”. Domestic terrorism qualifies as a qun restriction, too. They will propably soon throw in an affirmation of Trumpism as proof of reliability, too.
