Unfortunately NC is mostly blue/purple but gerrymandered to hell and has establishment repubs who won’t relinquish control of anything to let anything new happen. The GOP legislature over the last several years passed bills and regulations stripping the governor of power because they knew they were going to lose that seat. Many more congressional seats will be flipping blue next year.

It’s alright to mock them for being homeless, or having to pay two mortgages for one working home and the wreckage of their life after a natural disaster because “Most of them voted for a government that doesn’t care”?

I know someone that was 8+ months pregnant live in Asheville when Helene came through. They went over to their neighbor’s brick house as the hurricane caused extreme damage to theirs. The next day it took them a couple hours trying to drive out of the city to get somewhere safe. After they got out, one of them went back to get some possessions the same day and the road they escaped on was gone. Completely washed out and didn’t exist just hours after they drove on it.
In the end, they all survived, but the pregnant lady couldn’t live there anymore, physically due to damage and mentally from the trauma of having been so close to dying during the hurricane. They got the repairs done and moved to Duluth MN and carried a double mortgage until they could sell. They were fortunate to be in a financial position where this was an option, but that’s certainly not the norm. They are bleeding heart liberals that were living in the conservative South who were affected by the shit policies their neighbors voted for and representatives inacted. It’s unfortunate that the innocent bystanders are affected by things like this, but I have little to no sympathy for any conservative that put themselves and others around them in this situation.
Y’know it’s shit like this that will ultimately destroy the power of the feds. As they become less and less relevant to folks daily lives and unreliable on top of that eventually people just aren’t gonna listen.
So these are the real FEMA camps: still pay on a non-viable home, and go camping (live out of a tent).
