A national effort to circumvent the Electoral College has gained another state.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger signed a bill Monday that adds the state to the National Popular Vote Compact, an agreement among states to award their presidential electoral votes to the nationwide popular vote winner.
With Virginia, the total number of states signed on to the interstate compact is now 18, plus the District of Columbia, for a total of 222 electoral votes.
The compact doesn’t go into effect, though, until there are enough states signed up to reach the required 270 electoral votes to elect a president.

The electoral college is how Dipshit McOrange has squeaked by into 2 presidencies. In fact, it’s how most Republicans make it into the Oval Office. It’s also a distinctly awful holdover from the age of slavery, and was used to disenfranchise those who didn’t own slaves.
It’s long past time to get rid of it.
Trump won the popular vote the second time by 2.3 million votes, sadly this wouldn’t have saved us a second term. Well maybe it would have if losing the first time ended his attempts
Yes, he won by 2.5M in 2024 - because 6.5M stayed home or otherwise didn’t vote. He didn’t win that election because he had magically grown more popular; he won because people literally DID NOT VOTE like they did in 2020.
