I really thought that Gen Z was the future. I work with students at a university and there was a very strong change between them and the Millenials. Once the last Millenial graduated and it was full Gen Z, the entire atmosphere shifted and we didn’t have to deal with so many angry people anymore. They stopped having sex, drinking, and doing drugs. I thought that we finally achieved some sort of human development apogee.
Then we learned that they were flocking towards (i.e. algorithmed towards) the ultra right wing influencers and here we are. I still have hope that many will grow up, but we know that people don’t easily change their convictions. The human race may never be able to outgrow its monkey impulses.
They won’t grow up in the way you hope. Gen Z is already shit and each generation tends to get more conservative over time, not less.
