In addition to Piper voices which run locally in a browser and are quite good on their own, they also added Supertonic voices recently, which sound even better, are also running locally/synthesized in-browser and are even faster and lighter.

I’m usually too lazy to read long articles, so this extension is pretty convenient, I can just play and listen to it while I do something else.

    We love open source projects around here. That being said, this web browser extension isn’t self-hosted. Only going to lock the post so others can still know about the project.

    nice but i’m searching for a Android tts-engine that replaces my google-engine but i cant find something remotly good sounding

      SherpaTTS is what you are looking for. Uses the same Piper voices I think. Sherpa is what I use on my grapheneos phone google free.
