Just purchased a server license (for life). Not only is this update jam packed full of nice features, but a lot of their updates are. I’ve been self-hosting it (on a VPS) for the past year and it’s about time I supported them

This release also brings you […] a new font face (“The-name-must-not-be-named” Sans) that improves reading legibility, especially for numbers and smaller text

What’s the story about that font name? I’m out of the loop.

It’s a running meme on their website. They don’t want to name Google, so they call it that way.

So the font must be Google Sans.

If you are talking about using Linux on a desktop, then use DigiKam for photo management. It is far more advanced, because it is a desktop application and been around a lot longer.

You could have a workflow of a desktop environment AND immich on the server for the best of what they both offer.

I personally found this really easy to initially install, much easier than photo prism… however it’s died twice on me (postgres issues) first was due to an update and then incorrect permissions… I’m not sure what broke it the second time… So whilst easy to install, does still require maintenance and time to fix issues.

Strange, postgres is usually not the one to die. My server is permanently running out of space, so I have to keep deleting shit, and my PG did not die once. On the other hand, my other very old server (not updated in 3 years) has it’s PG die (and automatically restart) at least once a day.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s user error somewhere. But trying to find / read logs etc etc or do any type of fault finding is a bit of a grind because I don’t use Linux enough to become proficient

There are docker script and docker compose installs. It was basically reading the documents and Editting a few text files and launching it in docker. Hardest part I found was the face tagging, it was totally counter intuitive to assign a face and persons name. Like almost obfuscated. Once you set that up though it just does its thing superbly well

This software is more meant to be ran in a server environment, it’s suppose to be a replacement to subscription based photo/video cloud storage. I would not recommend you run this on a desktop you use daily as it’ll consume resources in the background slowing your desktop down, this is kinda why NAS storage systems exist.

Once you get a grasp on the BASH shell I would suggest playing around with docker and docker compose in a headless environment (headless = no desktop environment, shell only) as there are loads of applications you can self-host over your network.

      It might be this bit

On top of that, backup and restore functionality is now fully supported in the web interface. Users can restore database backups directly from the Immich UI, either through the administration maintenance page or during onboarding of a new instance.

Yeah I saw that… not really what I would consider a “web backup” exactly. I was hoping they were rolling out encrypted photo storage plans.

I was hoping even something else: making a backup copy of my database on an external service such as S3.

Has anyone pulled it yet? Is it stable? I use the (internet) scream test, if no drama follows the release for a few days, then i proceed with the pull.

v2.5.2 is planned to release today, they pulled v2.5.0 android apk since there was a bug with it. So I’d suggest waiting for the release today at least.

I really want to use Immich but I’ve installed it 3 different times and each time an upgrade completely breaks my installation and I spend hours troubleshooting. And yes, I read the patch notes and do whatever changes they mark in bold red as a warning.

It’s amazing when it works and they’re doing a great job at adding features, but my God does it break if you just look at it wrong.

How long ago did you do it?

Now Immich is considered stable, so it shouldn’t have breaking minor updates anymore.

Plus, if you use the docker installation you pretty much don’t have to worry about anything.

Going back through my github issues/comments, it was around May 2024 with the v1.105.0 release was my last attempt.

I’m happy to hear it is stable now, I’ll probably give it a shot again here soon. Again, I loved the app and I was hosting it for friends/family to share photos of my kids, so it helped immensely with everyone collaborating with uploads(though mobile uploads for individual photos wasn’t available at that time, had to direct people to use the website…).

To be fair I don’t think I used the docker installation back then, so I’ll probably make a stack for it this time around.

Just checked, there is an issue with the companion app on playstore, they have delayed the android app update due to an issue, so wait until play store shows the update and then do both (server and mobile app)

Gonna wait to update my podman instance. I’d like immich to have a better mamagement in a multiuser enviroment. I have my wife and kids phones sending photos to it, but I’d like to edit or exclude images from their accounts from mine.

@[email protected] and @[email protected] I used a setting on immich called “partner sharing” or something like it (my immich instance is on ptBR). If I’m not mistaken, it was on my account settings. There I can mark an option to my partners photos be shown on my timeline. There’s something That I have to do on looged on their accounts as well, but I can’t quite remeber it now.

Edit: Just update my instance now and everything is apparently running fine.
